New Years In Dublin

11th December 2018 by Marta Kozimor

Athbhliain faoi shéan is faoi mhaise daoibh!

The title caught you off guard, didn’t it? Athbhliain faoi shéan is faoi mhaise daoibh basically means ‘Happy New Year to you all” in Irish. You’re probably thinking right now; ‘how on earth do you pronounce that?!’, but not to worry, that was my exact same question the first time I seen anything written in Irish. If you’re planning on visiting Ireland for New Year, however, it’s a good phrase to learn to impress your friends and the locals.

Athbhliain faoi shéan is faoi mhaise daoibh is pronounced: “Ah-vlee fwee hayn iss (an emphasis on a strong ‘s’ sound) fwee wish-us deev”. I know, the pronunciation isn’t helping either, but hey, practice makes perfect!

I hope that all of you reading this are planning on visiting Dublin for New Year’s Eve this year. For those who are still deciding, the events, the food & the people should do the trick on persuading you on finalizing your decision.

Events

Gather together at the Custom House which becomes a central point of all the attractions each year. Listen to different artists performing on the stage, sing and dance like nobody’s watching! End this year and welcome the new year with an amazing lightning performance with aqua beams, laser effects and fireworks. This spectacle cannot be missed!

And for all the Gavin James fans out there; you’re in for a treat, as he is going to be the main act at the Custom House quay along with Hudson Taylor, Wild Youth and Inhaler. Now that’s four more reasons to attend that night!

Food

Ireland is known for the diversity of food that is accessible everywhere. Dublin is full of great bars, restaurants and cafes which provide top quality food and drink. If you’re hands and feet get cold, you can also pop in into a local pub or restaurant and grab a bite to eat and then continue with the rest of the night. Also, don’t forget the after-parties!

The People

The Irish people are famous for their friendliness and warm welcomes. They’re one of the main reasons why people visit Ireland in the first place. Let me assure you, if you’re looking for a great “craic” then you’re in the right place! Nobody loves to party more than the Irish themselves.

I could go on and on about all the good reasons that you should visit Dublin for New Year, but I will let the video speak for itself.

Wow, what a week we had! Lazy Bike Tours Dublin

24th August 2015 by hflood76@gmail.com

We are having a great time spreading the word about The Lazy Bike Tour Company.

This week we are in print in The Herald national newspaper and we have been busy hosting people from far and wide (& not so far!) The newspaper piece is not big – but it is a start, so it will be interesting to see where we crop up next. Keep an eye out for us, if you do spot a newspaper mention we would love you to let us know on Facebook

On Thursday, we had the the lovely people from Event Partners visit, getting to know the team here as well as to experience what we do. Event Partners really know their stuff and it was a pleasure to chat with them about visitor expectations. Our company is proud to help people understand the city that little bit better, but that doesn’t mean that we stand still in improving how we do it, so the tips and pointers were much appreciated. We had a nice tour around the city, and luckily, the rain held off as we wheeled about. We caught up with some locals along the way and there was certainly good banter had. Sure you can’t beat that craic here and the locals have it in spades ( Hello Anita! Good luck w11863354_1623240144631951_6776675530741394548_nith the sauce, we’d love to know the secret ingredient….we wont tell anyone) This happens regularly and some of our visitors have actually asked if we have people planted along the route to do this – We promise we haven’t! That’s just Dublin for you. It is definitely a place where people like to entertain, so it has to be seen to be believed.

We were also fortunate to have some lovely people from Georgetown College, Kentucky with us on Friday. The weather was just perfect for exploring the cobbled roads and getting a feel for Dublin. The American college basketball team had travelled to compete in a match against Swords basketball club in the Alsaa, so we wish them both a good game! I think there were a few converts to using electric bikes after they had been out with us- the Pedego bikes went down a storm as did the sights and stories (well done Hugh!)

I have to say that it would make anyone proud to see such interest in our capital from people of all nations. The streets are heaving over here and the buzz is nearly as electric as our bikes. If you are visiting Dublin soon you will see for yourself the amount of creativity and hidden gems this city has to offer. Just take a tour or stroll around when you are here, you will soon get to know what I mean.
